ACCOMMODATION (short term)

During admission period: for those arriving at night, during the weekend or before the registration period it will take one or more days to be allotted a bed in a JNU hostel, so consider the following two options:

OFF CAMPUS ^

I. The International Youth Hostel is open 24/24hr (prices in INR):

members: AC (non-AC): double 700 (300 - after 5 days: 400); single 500; additional bed 250 (100); double common bath 650; single common bath 450; additional bed 250; dormitory 250 (50 - after 5 days 75).
non-members have to pay membership first: 250 - foreigners cannot become life members.

breakfast 7-930 AM; lunch 1-2 PM (book by 1130 AM); dinner 730-9 PM (book by 6 PM).

lights off at 11 PM; closed for hostellers 12-4 PM; check out at 10 AM - if you have not paid by 10 AM you are considered as checked out.

free hairdryer for ladies! Internet 30 min: 20; 4 passport pictures: 60.

It is possible to make reservations through any International Youth Hostel outside India.

II. JNU Gomti guesthouse: located not far from CP, in Barakhamba Road, near JNU city campus, Mandi House, behind the National Museum of Natural History. For booking and price, see Aravali guesthouse (On campus, see below).

PAYING GUEST ^

In the newspapers (see Media) you can find the occasional advertisement for a paying guest staying in a room with a family.

ON CAMPUS ^

Aravali and international Aravali (both on JNU campus) and Gomti (Off campus - see above) guest houses can be booked by a current student for her/himself and/or friends/family: get a form in office behind Aravali and get it signed by a faculty member; you will have to pay Rs. 100 advance and charges for the entire period of booking when late or non-arrival - refund for cancellation up to 24hrs before arrival.

for Single (non) AC: Rs (150) 300 and double (non) AC: Rs (250) 500 (in AC you can max. stay a few days, in non AC 10-14 days, as available). There are restaurants.

Aravali international (all AC rooms) costs single Rs500 and double room Rs 750. There is no restaurant, but it is close to Aravali Guesthouse.

Book as long in advance as possible.

If you want to stay as a guest in a hostel, your host has to submit an application, get permission from the warden, deposit the guest charges (Rs.4/night) and get a receipt. Your period of stay can be extended by the warden. Illegal guests have to pay a Rs. 200 fine if caught (Rs. 500 if girls stay in boys’ rooms; you are evicted if caught 3 times hosting illegals, even in your absence).

You can eat in any mess of any hostel by purchasing a guest coupon per meal (breakfast / lunch / vegetarian / non-veg dinner) - 3 dinners per week are non-veg.
